From 1948 to the 2000s

Honda was founded in 1948 by two ambitious managers, Soichiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa. A year later, it delivered its first motor vehicle, a D-type motorcycle called the “Dream”. The manufacturer rapidly grew and started its international expansion with the opening of a concession in Los Angeles in 1959. Honda’s management then capitalized on their first 2-wheel successes and launched the National Youth Project in 1960 to help disadvantaged young people get ahead in life. 1976 marked a turning point for the company that introduced the (still) popular Accord, first in hatchback, and then in a sedan version in 1979. From there, the company portfolio expanded and the luxury line Acura was launched in 1986. Visionary, Honda made its first steps in the green vehicles’ arena in 1999 with the introduction of the Honda Insight, a hybrid model still offered today, which was then followed by the Clarity and other hybrid versions of existing models.

From the 2000s to a Bright Future

Since the beginning of the 2000s (some might even say before that), Honda has been successful on all fronts. The Civic, one of the (if not the) best-selling car in North America, was declared North American car of the year in 2016. The Honda Ridgeline received the same award in its category the following year. The Honda Accord, the one that started it all, is this year’s North American car, and it’s safe to assume than future vehicles from this visionary manufacturer will draw the attention of drivers and car experts.
